Famed music composer A.R. Rahman has teamed up with Oscar and Grammy-nominated artist M.I.A. and an array of Tamil artists around the world to launch 'maaja', a project to support and amplify the voices of independent artists. A.R Rahman hopes to 'elevate the world class talent' to a global stage.

Rahman draws on the influence of his birth city Chennai and growing up with the ‘four south Indian languages’ as a calling for him to start a project to revive the ‘unity’ and expand the ‘industry and the joy it creates’.

The maiden project of maajja will be the launching of YAALL – a premier global music festival in Chennai, which will showcase numerous talented Tamil independent artists from Chennai to Toronto. Described as the beginning of a ‘cultural renaissance’, Eelam Tamil and Indian Tamil artists form the bulk of the line-up and lead the way.
