A protest was held in Jaffna today calling for the immediate release of Tamil political prisoners.
Demonstrators, including supporters of the New Democratic Marxist Leninist Party, gathered in front of Central Bus Stand this morning, stating that many Tamil prisoners have been languishing in jail for months or years without being charged.
The protest comes as over 200 Tamil political detainees across the island started a hunger strike on Monday, demanding to be released.
