In advance of the 36th Maaveerar Naal commemoration, Tamils across the homeland are preparing cemeteries to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in the armed struggle.
Mullaitivu
In the district of Mullaitivu, Tamils gathered en mass to restore Thuyilum Illam, the grave stones for fallen LTTE cadres.
Tamils continue to brave ongoing harassment from Sri Lanka’s police who have secured a court order banning the commemorations and are taking efforts to remove the gate from the Thuyilum Illam.
Kilinochchi
In Kanagapuram,Kilinochchi, Tamils gathered to mark the anniversary.
Maaveerar Naal which is in memory of the first death of a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam cadre, Lt. Shankar who died in combat on November 27, 1982.
