As Sri Lanka’s president travelled to the Tamil homeland last week, Sri Lankan police halted and arrested two women activists with the Vavuniya families of the disappeared as they attempted to protest.
Vavuniya Association of Relatives of the Enforced Disappeared leader Sivananthan Jenita and Meera Jasmine Charlesnise were both pushed back by uniformed Sri Lankan police officers, before being detained and arrested.

A further three persons were arrested in Jaffna, as Ranil Wickremesinghe visited the city.
The arrests have brought widespread condemnation, including from the Tamil families of the disappeared across the North-East.
