National People’s Power (NPP) parliamentarian Rajeewan Jayachandramurthy paid tribute at the newly opened Thiyaga Theepam Thileepan archive in Nallur, Jaffna, on Saturday evening.
Rajeewan visited the site, located near the Thiyaga Theepam memorial in Nallur, where he honoured a statue of Thileepan and toured the archive, which contains materials commemorating the LTTE political leader.

The opening of the archive comes amid heightened attention on Thileepan’s memory, as Tamils across the North-East mark the anniversary of his fast unto death in 1987, when he protested and demanded that the Indian government honour the pledges it made to the Tamil people.
The visit follows controversy earlier this week, when Sri Lanka’s Fisheries Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekaran was blocked from paying tribute at the Thileepan memorial. He was intercepted by members of the Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) on Thursday and turned away without being permitted to proceed.
