New university term kicks off bigger and better

As the first half of the university term passes by, the growth of Tamil societies across Britain’s capital has been astounding.

London’s Tamil student community have been busy, working hard to make this year’s events more successful than ever before. Having held four incredible club nights so far this term, the societies have confirmed they have many more more planned.

The year kicked off with King’s College London Tamil Society launching their first event “Casino Royale”. The sell-out event saw more than 200 students dressed to impress at the exclusive Anaya in Mayfair.

The following week, Imperial Tamil Society held “Twist: Reignited”, carrying on the legacy of exciting “Twist” events held by the previous committees. Hosted at Green Carnation in Soho, the night was a huge success, as students from all over London got together.

As Halloween approached, Queen Mary’s Tamil Society held their annual “Bump in the Night” fancy dress night, at the elite Penthouse club, No. 1 Leicester Square. The event took place on the top floor, providing breathtaking views of London. It was the first Tamil society event to be held there.

And just last week, City University Tamil Society held their inaugural event “Electricity” at Traffic in Holborn. This was the first ever Tamil society neon party, with free UV paint and glow sticks being handed out at the door to students who danced the night away.

University College London Tamil Society will also be holding their first club event, “Icebox” at Anaya on Wednesday night.

But it’s not just club events, that the Tamil societies have been hard at work for.

Dancers and singers have been rehearsing religiously for Queen Mary Tamil Society’s Variety Show coming up on the 17th of December. The event promises to be an impressive spectacle and will be held at the Mermaid centre in Blackfriars.

Another event not to be missed off the calendar is Imperial’s 12th annual “Mega Maalai” show to be held in the new year. With auditions currently underway, the show looks set to be even more successful than previous years.

To top it all off, ‘Kutti Hari’ will also have the honour of hosting this year’s 19th annual King’s College London Diwali Show at the Barbican Hall.
