Murdered Tamil journalist Aiyathurai Nadesan was remembered by journalists in Vavuniya, to mark 16 years since his assassination.
Mr Nadesan was shot dead in Batticaloa on his way to work on May 31 2004. He was a profile journalist and a columnist who worked for local Tamil dailies and international news agencies.
Members of Vavuniya Tamil Journalists Association lit candles and laid flowers in tribute to the slain journalist.
The award winning journalist, known by his penname "Nellai Nadesan" was threatened before his death for his reporting on the Sri Lankan army. He was one of several journalists, including Mylvaganam Nimalrajan, Dharmeratnam (Taraki) Sivaram and Lasantha Wickrematunga killed as part of silencing criticism of Sri Lanka's ruthless military campaign.
