Mullaitivu councillor marks Maaveerar Naal

Northern Provincial Council member Thurairasa Ravikaran led a Maaveerar Naal tribute in Mullaithivu. Ravikaran was joined by over fifteen citizens, including the mother of a Maaveerar.

“Today is Maaveerar Naal. The Maaveerar sacrificed their lives for the Tamil nation, and became seeds in this land. They are the children of our people," said Ravikaran.

“On this day, our people express our feelings for those eternal heroes, before the world.”

“Paying tribute to those who lost their lives is part of human civilisation. Our people today are only carrying out that global practice of remembrance. And they will continue to do so.”

We need your support

Sri Lanka is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist. Tamil journalists are particularly at threat, with at least 41 media workers known to have been killed by the Sri Lankan state or its paramilitaries during and after the armed conflict.

Despite the risks, our team on the ground remain committed to providing detailed and accurate reporting of developments in the Tamil homeland, across the island and around the world, as well as providing expert analysis and insight from the Tamil point of view
