Meanwhile the Sri Lankan government has said it is holding a series of talks with Indian politicians, including Narendra Modi.

Minister for Mass Media and Information Keheliya Rambukwella told Ceylon Today that the government was holding talks with Modi as he is expected to be the next prime minister of India.

"Yes, we are holding discussions with Modi and also closely watching the progress of the election.

"We are having a series of dialogues with all the Parties that are contesting for the general elections in India. After all, they are our neighbours and holding discussions is a continuous process," the minister said.
