Mervyn’s mobsters attack local politicians

A gang, thought to be affiliated to Minister Mervyn Silva, attacked Chairman of the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha, Prasanna Ranaweera and Pradeshiya Sabha member Nadeeka Sampath Vitharana last week Thursday, for not giving due recognition to Mervyn as the Keleniya UPFA Chief Organiser.

The two local politicians were organising a function to welcome Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa’s wife, when the thugs arrived and threatened and assaulted people present.

“When we were putting up banners of President Mahinda Rajapkasa and Basil Rajapaksa for a function, Damayanthi Perera together with a few thugs including one of the most waned criminal in the area, Roy, came in a Dimo Batta and threatened us for not putting up Silva’s picture claiming that he was still the chief organiser,” said Vitharana.

Meanwhile a new parliamentary act will be introduced, giving Mervyn the power to discipline public servants.

Once the cabinet approves the act, Mervyn’s Ministry of Public Relations and Public Affairs will be able to investigate and make rulings and recommendations on officials attached to ministries, departments, semi-government institutions and statutory boards, reported the DailyMirror.
