Sri Lanka's Cricket Board announced on Friday that it had written a private letter to the “Ravana Balaya” Buddhist group addressing their condemnation of the Board's decision to allow Sri Lankan cricketers to play in the Indian Premier League.
Whilst the letter has not been disclosed to the press, the chairperson of Sri Lanka Cricket, Upali Dharmadasa said that Board had explained their discussions with the Ministry of External Affairs and Sport regarding player safety, and that the players had signed their respective IPL contractives a long time ago.
Earlier this week the “Ravana Balaya” Buddhist group together with hundreds of supporters protested against the Cricket Board. The Buddhist monk and the organisation's secretary, Iththakande Saddathissa Thera, accused the cricketers of having "prostituted themselves for Jayalalithaa’s money" and threatened that "the day will soon arrive when the very same hands that applauded the cricketers are used to throw rotten eggs at them."
