Governor of Massachusetts, Maura T Healey, has proclaimed January 14th as Tamil Heritage Day in the state, as she paid tribute to Tamil Americans.
The proclamation honors Thai Pongal, a harvest festival celebrated by Tamils worldwide. Healey, highlighted how the festival brings together members of the Tamil-American community and others in Massachusetts in celebration with gatherings, decorations, and special foods so that “all people may learn from each other in the spirit of community service."
The US state has already built ties with Tamil Nadu, with the Massachusetts-Tamil Nadu Energy Partnership Dialogue kicked off in 2019.
The latest announcement comes as cities and countries around the world celebrate Tamil heritage month and the Tamil festival of Thai Pongal.
