LTTE leader Prabhakaran's birthday marked in the North-East

Tamils in the North-East are marking Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) leader Velupillai Prabhkaran's 68th birthday today.

Students at the University of Jaffna cut a cake to mark the LTTE leader's birthday.

Sweets were also distributed in Valvettithurai, the leader's hometown, to mark the day. The presence of Sri Lanka's security forces was intensified around the leader's Valvettithurai home in the lead up to his birthday.

Tamils have also been warned by the army that they are not allowed the clean the Maaveerar memorial in Valvettithurai Theravil. However, Tamils defiantly cleaned the memorial braving the threats of the military.
