JVP seeks KP arrest

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has filed a petition in Sri Lanka's court of appeal, seeking the arrest of  Kumaran Pathmanathan, also known as KP.

"We want him arrested for his activities. He has to answer many questions," JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath told media.

KP, who is also wanted in India in connection with the death of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, is a former member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, and was allegedly arrested by the Sri Lankan government in August 2009 before being welcomed by the then Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

Reports earlier this month indicated that KP had fled the country with the defeat of Mahinda Rajapaksa at the parliamentary election.
