Sri Lanka’s joint opposition has urged the public to rally against the government for “betraying” the armed forces and allowing the UN Human Rights chief to visit the island later this month.
Leader of the National Freedom Front (NFF) Wimal Weerawansa said the visit by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein was part of an international move to set up a war crimes tribunal in Sri Lanka and slammed the current government.
Mr Weerawansa stated the current government was “spineless” for allowing such a visit to take place and called on the public to rally together against it.
