The National Organiser of the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) has called for a “total crackdown” on all former LTTE cadres in the North-East, reports the Daily Mirror, after protests and unrest in the region, after two university students were shot dead by Sri Lankan police.
Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe told a press conference that "the Government should carry out a thorough check on all former LTTEers to determine their current circumstances and activities and arrest if found to be connected to any criminal activities."
He went on to warn that the former cadres “still have their old attitudes prompting them to carry out anti-social activities”.
“They are violating the peace, law and order in the provinces,” he added. “Therefore, it is high time for the government to direct the law enforcement to put a stop to this chaotic situation.”
Mr Warnasinghe went on to blame Tamil politicians in the North-East for the unrest, which has seen demonstrations to protest against the murder of two university students by Sri Lankan police last week.
