Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha has written yet another letter to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressing her dismay at India’s lack of action on repeated attacks and arrest of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.
In her letter to the Prime Minister, Jayalalitha stated,
“The Sri Lankan Navy is now acting with greater impunity and effectively thwarting Indian fishermen coming from the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu from peacefully pursuing their livelihood in their traditional fishing waters in the Palk Bay”.
“The Government of India is yet again treating the livelihood issue of lakhs of fishermen of Tamil Nadu with inexplicable insensitivity. Strong diplomatic action is not being taken by the Government of India to curb such repeated instances of attack, apprehension and unlawful detention of our fishermen.”
Her comments come as anonymous sources told the Hindu that India was likely to vote against Sri Lanka and enforce a resolution at the UN Human Rights Council in March.
