Jaffna Tamils observe 'Black Week' ahead of Sri Lanka's independence day

Ahead of Sri Lanka's 75th Independence Day, Jaffna Tamils have commenced observing "Black Week" in protest of the Sri Lankan government.

Included amongst those participating in the protest is the Government Medical Officers Association which has rallied against the government's proposed tax policy and has demanded a solution to the shortage of medical equipment and pharmaceutical drugs.

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) had also commenced obtaining signatures for a public petition from the patients and the public at the Jaffna Hospital.
