The Israeli government is to allow an official visit from the working group of the International Criminal Court, which is currently investigation alleged war crimes committed during the 2014 war with Hamaz in Gaza.
The decision, which is unprecendented, was announced by the foreign ministry spokesperson on Sunday, The Times of Israel, AFP and Jurist reported. However, it is yet to be confirmed by the prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
An Israeli official, speaking to Haaretz on condition of anonymity, reportedly said, the visit would focus on showing “how the Israeli judicial system works”, adding "we have nothing to hide".
“We would be happy to show the court at The Hague how serious, professional and independent the Israeli legal system is."
“This is an additional opportunity to make clear that Israel believes there is no room for the intervention of the court at The Hague and that it has neither the authority nor the justification to handle the Palestinians' complaints," he said to Haaretz.
