Indian security adviser meets TNA leader to discuss development

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval met with Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader R Sampanthan last week during his visit to the island to discuss development.

Speaking to The Hindu, Sampanthan said that "matters pertaining to the development of Sri Lanka and the development of the north and east were discussed."

The meeting comes as Modi recently told Sri Lanka's prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa that the "implementation of the 13th Amendment to the Sri Lankan Constitution is essential for carrying forward the process of peace and reconciliation."

Doval's visit also included trilateral talks with Sri Lankan and Maldivian counterparts, bilateral meetings with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Maldivian Defence Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi and Secretary to Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence Kamal Gunaratne.
