Indian Foreign Secretary reaffirms commitment to 13th amendment during visit to Jaffna

Indian Foreign Secretary, Shri Harsha Vardhan Shringla, reaffirmed "India's commitment to protecting the rights of Tamils through full implementation of the 13th amendment" during his visit to Jaffna.

Whilst visit he met with representatives of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC). His visit to Jaffna follows the day after his arrival in Colombo.

He also visited the Jaffna Cultural Center accompanied by Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Bagley and Assistant High Commissioner Rakesh Natraj Jayabaskaran.

The visit comes as Sri Lanka faces increased scrutiny over its human rights record with an EU delegation set to review its policy of preferential trade with Sri Lanka.
