A human rights group, Centre for Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (CPPHR) working in the North-East accused the Sri Lankan police of harassing them after their meeting with United Nations Human Rights Chief, Navi Pillay, last week.
The head of the CPPHR, Veerasan Yogeswaran, who works in the district of Trincomalee, said that the police questioned him following his meeting with the UN human rights chief.
Yogeswaran told the Agence France-Presse that,
“People feel harassed and intimidated. Just imagine the plight of the ordinary people when they are visited at midnight by the security forces.”
