British MP for Ealing Southall, Virendra Sharma, has condemned the destruction of the Mullivaikal memorial in Jaffna university, describing it as "a high political choice to silence the memories of thousands".
On Twitter he stated:

In his statement, Sharma calls on the British Foreign Secretary to raise these concerns directly with the Sri Lankan government and also called for there to be space for the "public memory of the thousands killed in the civil war, fighters and civilians".
