Hambantota deal signed with China

Sri Lanka signed on the US$1.1 billion Hambantota port city deal with the state owned China Merchant Port Holdings on Saturday following months of delays.

The deal, which was initially embarked on by the Rajapaksa government, was met with protests from Buddhist monks and Sinhala voters who accused the current government of clandestinely selling the country to China.
