Free at last – 5 Tamils arrested under PTA to be released without charge

A Sri Lankan court has ordered the release of 5 Tamils who had been detained under the draconian Prevention of Terrorism Act since 2019.

The Colombo Magistrate's Court ordered that the 5 Tamils, who had been detained in Magazine prison on the southern capital, were to be freed.

The five were from Pallai, Kilinochchi and Jaffna and had been in detention since 2019.

However, many more Tamil political prisoners remain detained in Sri Lanka jails. Many of them continue to be held without charge.
