Four arrested in Jaffna for allegedly possessing gunpowder

Four men from Poonakary have been arrested by the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) after being accused that they were in possession of gunpowder used in the production of domestically manufactured bombs.

They were arrested on Monday night, near the Vallipura Aalvar Temple in Point Pedro, Jaffna. The four suspects have been detained at the TID’s Jaffna office.

The suspects were arrested after army officials and the TID conducted a search following a secret intelligence tip-off.

TID claims that around 856 grams of C-4 gunpowder was recovered from them, whilst two motorcycles were also seized from their possession.

The TID insisted that the three suspects will be produced in court and the police will seek an order for remand to conduct further investigations.
