Remembrance events were held across the Tamil homeland today to mark the fifth day of Maaveerar remembrance week.

At Vanni Vilankulam Thuyilum Illam in Mullaitivu, flowers were laid by a makeshift monument to commemorate the tens of thousands of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres who sacrificed their lives for Tamil liberation.

In Point Pedro, parents and relatives of fallen LTTE cadres commemorated their loved ones at Jaffna Suparmadam Hall.

Fallen LTTE cadres and their parents were also honoured at another event in Point Pedro where Sri Lankan police investigators intensified their presence around the memorial hall. The mother of three fallen cadres lit a lamp in remembrance of her loved ones before all the parents were given coconut saplings.

Day five of Maaveerar remembrance week was also marked in Nallur, Jaffna. Earlier this week, 34 plaques listing the names of tens of thousands of LTTE cadres was unveiled at a memorial hall dedicated to the Maaveerar.
