After an intense battle with the High Court, a last minute injunction was placed on the deportation of a Tamil family to Sri Lanka.
Following distressing scenes earlier in the day, where the UK Border Authority restrain the screaming children and take them to the airport, the emergency injunction was able to halt the flight and allow the traumatised family to be removed from the plane
Sri Lanka is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist. Tamil journalists are particularly at threat, with at least 41 media workers known to have been killed by the Sri Lankan state or its paramilitaries during and after the armed conflict.
