Sri Lankan President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, once again rejected calls for a potential international investigation into alleged war crimes committed at the end of the ethnic conflict.
Speaking in response to British prime minister, David Cameron's calls for an independent investigation, at a news conference in Colombo today, Rajapaksa said,
“Do not dictate to me, I’m not ready to take orders from others. We have a tradition and culture of over 2500 years and a time tested legal system together with a law enforcement process to address any issue.”
Outlining that an independent investigation would need time, Rajapaksa described provisions made to carry out independent investigations, stating,
“We have set up a parliamentary committee that has representatives from all parties. Give us time.”
Rejecting, at Saturday’s Commonwealth press conference, David Cameron’s reiteration of a March deadline, Rajapaksa also commented,
“Those in glass houses should not throw stones.”
