Devotees gather at Mullaitivu temple as military looks on

The iconic Vattrapalai Amman temple in Mullaitivu was forced to hold its annual festival amid a heightened security presence.

Armed military personnel were seen around the temple and at its entrance, as devotees gathered to take part in the event, including its pongal festival today.

Military personnel established a checkpoint and used drones to monitor those gathered.

The festival comes just after the Tamil nation remembers the genocide of Mullivaikkal.
