The third day of Tamil genocide remembrance week was marked in Navaly on Sunday.
Flames were lit at the memorial stone of the Navaly church bombing of 1995, in which the Sri Lankan Air Force bombed the Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, killing 172 Tamil civilians who were sheltering from the fighting.
Sri Lanka is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist. Tamil journalists are particularly at threat, with at least 41 media workers known to have been killed by the Sri Lankan state or its paramilitaries during and after the armed conflict.
