An international conference on the Sri Lankan state’s procurement of Tamil land is currently underway at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, with speakers from around the world scheduled to speak.

Organised by the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tamils alongside the British Tamils Forum, the conference is set to take place over two days, being hosted at the Houses of Parliament on Friday and University College London on Saturday.

According to the British Tamils Forum,

"The aim of this conference is to formulate a strategy for creating awareness over state grabs of Tamil land in Sri Lanka, and for using international mechanisms and legal frameworks to reclaim lost land, stop ongoing land grabs and prevent future land grabs."

The inauguration ceremony is currently taking place, with British Parliamentarians and speakers from across the world, including from the Tamil homeland, scheduled to address the conference.

Sri Lanka is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist. Tamil journalists are particularly at threat, with at least 41 media workers known to have been killed by the Sri Lankan state or its paramilitaries during and after the armed conflict.

Despite the risks, our team on the ground remain committed to providing detailed and accurate reporting of developments in the Tamil homeland, across the island and around the world, as well as providing expert analysis and insight from the Tamil point of view
