A Chinese company will provide Sri Lanka’s first communications satellite, after a contract was signed in the presence of President Xi-Jinping and President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The deal is part of an agreement to expand bilateral trade, investment and cooperation in agriculture, space technology and infrastructure, said news.lk.
The satellite to Sri Lanka will provide telecommunications and broadcasting services to Sri Lanka and its neighbouring countries and regions.
Sri Lanka is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist. Tamil journalists are particularly at threat, with at least 41 media workers known to have been killed by the Sri Lankan state or its paramilitaries during and after the armed conflict.
