A special court in Poonamallee, Chennai, has acquitted four Eelam Tamil refugees who were arrested on the suspicion that they were attempting to "revive" the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
The judge ruled that the prosecutors did not produce sufficient evidence against the arrested in order for the proceedings against them to go ahead.
Amongst those who were apprehended include a man called Suresh Kumar, who is purported to be an ex-LTTE cadre and an electronics expert. He was alleged to have trained fellow Tamils in the making of explosives.
None of the charges were proved and Suresh Kumar, along with three other people have been exonerated.
The initial arrests were made in 2012 by the notorious Q Branch of Tamil Nadu Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Officials of this branch have been repeatedly involved in the intimidation of Eelam Tamil refugees in Tamil Nadu and threatened many of them with deportation to Sri Lanka.
