Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took part in a Tamil Heritage Month celebration at the Richmond Hill Temple, in Ontario, on January 17.
In a statement, the temple said:
"This momentous occasion underscores the importance of our rich Tamil heritage and the valuable contributions of the Tamil community to Canada."
Trudeau and Gary Anandasangaree, Minister of Canadian Northern Economic Development and Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs, visited the temple which was also celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Last week, Trudeau issued a statement extending his wishes for Thai Pongal and Tamil Heritage Month.
“The month of January also marks Tamil Heritage Month in Canada, a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the history, resilience and strength of the Tamil community,” he added.
“Let us all take this chance to recognize the many contributions Tamil Canadians have made, and continue to make, to our country.”
