Members of the TIC who sat on the discussion panel alongside author N Malathy, outlining key themes that were important to them, summarised parts of the book.
Speaking to the audience both panel members from the TIC highlighted how Malathy’s book recorded the extensive social welfare work that was carried out in the LTTE led de-facto state. They also concluded that Malathy’s experience of working with NGO’s at the ceasefire time, validated claims that actors in international community and NGO’s were acting impartially at the time.
Malathy, in a short address, outlined her intentions behind writing the book, stating she aimed to record and describe the social structure of the de-facto state and highlight the ‘unjustness in the way the international community approached the LTTE and the Tamil struggle.’
Keep an eye out for our interview with the author of the book soon.
