The Basque separatist militant group ETA formally announced its disbanding in Spanish papers on Wednesday reports Politico.
In a letter published by the El Diario newspaper, ETA said “ETA has completely dissolved all its structures and has terminated its political initiative.”
It further added that the Basque conflict with Spain “did not being with the ETA and does not end with the end of ETA’s journey.”
In its early years, the ETA fought against the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, and won substantial autonomous powers to the Basque region when democracy was introduced in the 1978 constitution.
