30 Sri Lankan Navy personnel test positive for coronavirus

30 Navy personnel at Welisara Navy camp have tested positive for Covid-19, Army commander Shavendra Silva said. 

As a result, 4,000 Navy personnel and their families have been directed to self-isolate, the Newswire reports

"Steps have been taken to issue instructions to Naval personnel to stay at home further who were already at home on leave, to restart all naval operations after conducting all required health testing and also to admit those who were infected with the virus at hospitals and treat them as necessary,” the Sri Lanka Navy said.

In 2017, a 'Disaster Response Unit' was opened at Welisara Navy camp by Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne, Sri Lanka’s Chief of Defence Staff,  who stands accused of aiding a key suspect involved in the abduction and murder of 11 Tamil youths,
