Families of the missing resumed a hunger strike protest in Vavuniya on Friday.
These families had engaged in a prominent hunger strike campaign - calling for information about and accountability for their missing and disappeared loved ones - in January, which they had suspended following a meeting scheduled by the defence minister.
The protestors said that nothing productive had come out of the meeting which took place on 9th February at Temple Trees, and so they decided to resume their protest, this time vowing not to move unless the Sri Lankan president or prime minister addressed them directly with a concrete solution.
The campaign's three main demands are to achieve a resolution to the missing persons issue, to secure the release of all Tamil political prisoners and to hasten the repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
