UNP parliamentarians arrested over attack on SL army officer

UNP MPs Palitha Thewarapperuma and Hesha Vithana have been arrested by Sri Lankan police after an alleged attack on a retired Sri Lankan army officer, according to reports from Colombo.

The two parliamentarians are accused of assaulting Major (Rtd) Ajith Prasanna, who is also a former UPFA councillor, near Temple Trees on 1st November.

The arrest comes at a time when Colombo is in political turmoil and as both Mahinda Rajapaksa and Ranil Wickremesinghe tussle for lawmakers to prove they have a majority in Sri Lanka’s parliament.
