The case hearing for the investigation into the assassination of former Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP Joseph Pararajasingham ruled that the case will be adjourned until February 25th 2020.
The ruling was made today (22nd January) by Judge M. Abdullah at the Batticaloa High Court, Batticaloa.
A senior TNA figure and MP for the Batticaloa district, Parajasingham was shot dead by two gunmen on Christmas Day 2005 as he was attending midnight mass at St. Mary's Cathedral, Batticaloa.
It is widely believed by many that the assassination was sanctioned by the Sri Lanka government and orchestrated by Colonel Karuna Amman’s political faction, Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP). Parajasingham’s wife, Sugunam Parajasingham was seriously wounded in the gunfire among seven other civilians, who were also injured during the ambush.
For their involvement in the incident; former leader of TMVP and Sri Lanka’s Eastern Province Chief Minister, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan (also known as Pillayan); paramilitary associates Edwin Silva Krishnanantharaja (also known as Prathip Master) and Rengasamy Kanaganayagam (also known as Gajan Mama); Military Intelligence officer M. Khaleel; and former Sri Lankan soldier Mathusinghe (also known as Vinoth) have all been arrested and further remanded.
