Police in the North-East have arrested three people for activities relating to the Tamil remembrance day, Maaveerar Naal, reported the Uthayan on Tuesday.

Two arrests were made in Mirusuvil and one near Puththur junction and the detained were in possession of Maaveerar Naal posters, according to sources.

TamilNet named one of the arrested as S Sulaxan, a young Tamil activist from Meesalai. Relatives of Sulaxan told TamilNet that intelligence officers removed his laptop from his residence.

The Uthayan said the army has increased its presence in order to stop events to observe the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran’s birthday on Wednesday and Maaveerar Naal on Thursday.
