Tamil nursing student brutally attacked for sending image of cake on LTTE leader's birthday

A Sri Lankan navy nursing student a the Nursing Training College of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital severely attacked a Tamil nursing student for sending a photo of a cake in a Whatsapp group on Friday, coinciding with the LTTE leader’s birthday.

The image was sent following Sinhalese navy trainees’ death threats made to the Tamil students at the College earlier this year. On 19 May 2021, a day after Mullaivaikkal Remembrance Day, members of the navy who are also receiving training at the College sent to the Tamil nursing students an image of a Sri Lankan army commander making a beheading signal at peaceful Tamil protestors outside the Sri Lankan Embassy in London in 2018.

When the matter was brought to the attention of the hospital administration, the victim was questioned as to why he had sent the picture of the cake given the hostile situation in the country.
