Now is “not the time” to reduce funding for World Health Organisation - UN Chief

 

Following a statement from the US President that the US would halt funding for the World Health Organisation (WHO); António Guterres, UN Chief, has responded insisting now is not the time to reduce funding.

In a statement, Guterres insisted that support for the WHO was “absolutely critical to the world’s efforts to win the war against COVID-19”. He further maintained that it was not the time to reduce the resources for WHO or any humanitarian organisation.

In his statement, he also spoke out against the spread of misinformation and the need to stand in solidarity to stop the virus.

According to the WHO, there are over 1.8 million confirmed cases; more than 117,000 confirmed deaths globally.
