As part of a collaborative project marking the 10th year since the end of the war in Sri Lanka, today the Adayaalam Centre for Policy Research, Tamil Guardian and 47 Roots, launched: www.RememberMay2009.com.
The website aims to provide a resource that maps out the atrocities that took place during the final months of the armed conflict and reflects on their impact 10 years later.
“For the Tamil community, the last phase of the war marks one of the darkest periods in the nation’s history, and is recognised as a genocide,” said Research Director of Adayaalam, Dharsha Jegatheeswaran. “We aim with this site to build an archive comprehensively documenting the daily realities during this last phase, and also the Tamil polity’s resistance to these horrific atrocities over the last decade.”
The website features a comprehensive timeline of January to May 2009, an interactive map of the diaspora’s protests in 2009, a diverse range of reflections from the Tamil polity, and a gallery of artwork commemorating Mullivaikkaal.
“We plan to continue adding to and building this website so that it serves as a platform for reflection but also a resource for the continued pursuit of justice for all those who died in Mullivaikkaal,” said Vinorshan Ravindrakumar, Creative Director of 47 Roots.
