Global Tamil News

Unlike other universities across the island, which recommenced following vacation period on November 18th, teaching remains suspended at Jaffna University with a further vacation have been granted until December 1st.

Organised by the Jaffna University Student Union, the protest began at 8am this morning, with students holding placards, demanding to know why Jaffna University was being treated differently.

The protest has resulted in an increased presence of Sri Lankan riot police outside the university grounds.

Last month, the student union asserted that the prolonged closure of Jaffna University, was a policy that attacked the Jaffna students' ability to progress academically.
