Herbicidal Sri Lankan military

The Sri Lankan Army has launched a “well coordinated” drive to eradicate weeds in the Jaffna peninsula, reported the Civil and Military Coordination – Jaffna website.

The project to eradicate the “perilous” Parthenium hysterophoru, was started by Jaffna commander Major General Udaya Perera.

The plant, which can cause respiratory difficulties on contact, was reported to have been brought to Jaffna by Indian forces in the 80s.
