Deputy minister resigns, joins UNP

Amid the number of cross overs of Sri Lankan MPs taking place following the appointment of Mahinda Rajapaksa as premier, the deputy minister of the UPFA government resigned today, and said he would be joining the UNP.

Manusha Nanayakkara MP was sworn in as deputy minister of labor and foreign employment on November 1.

In a video address just 5 days later, Nanayakkara said he did not approve of what he described as "arbitary appointments" and would support the struggle to "uphold democracy".

A number of UNP MPs and one TNA MP have crossed over to Rajapaksa's cabinet.
