Compulsory ‘leadership and positive attitude’ training for Sri Lanka's university entrants

Sri Lanka’s mandatory military-run ‘Leadership and Positive Attitude’ program for new university students begins this weekend.

The three-week training program, conducted for the third consecutive year, is to be held for three waves of students in 22 military camps island wide, Colombopage reports.

The new entrants will be instructed in Sri Lanka's future vision and global changes, the processing of a strategic living plan and reaching the long term objectives, physical training, first aid, leadership qualities and common law, the website said.

Education sector trade unions and JVP-affiliated student unions have objected to the leadership training programme claiming the move militarizes the higher education sector, it added.

The training comprises both theory and practical sessions, including indoor and outdoor activities, state media said.
