British Tamils remember Thileepan’s sacrifice

Marking the 35th anniversary of Lt Col Thileepan’s hunger stike onto death, British Tamils held a memorial event in London.

Thileepan began his hunger strike at Nallur Kandaswamy Temple 35 years ago, demanding that the Indian government honour its pledges to the Tamil people. Starting his hunger strike on the 15th of September 1987, surrounded by over 100,000 supporters, and died 11 days later, on the 26th of September 1987.
